Sea Star Stable Equestrian Academy
**We are currently re-assessing our Academy - please stay tuned!
Kara grew up participating in the United States Pony Club and it has been an integral part of her training and the foundation of Sea Star Stable. Kara wants all of the riders at SSS to understand that learning how to care for horses is just as important, maybe more important, as learning how to ride. Sea Star Stable has combined the ideas of Pony Club and HorseSense Riding Academy in Georgia to launch a “Stars” level program. Riders and students of all ages can be working toward being knowledgeable, well-rounded equestrians with riding goals and horse-management goals. There is a list of goals to achieve each star and awards will be presented once the student shows proficiency at that level. There will be riding levels and horse-management levels which do not need to synch up. Students who just want to learn about horses and their care can participate in our horse-management section of the academy.
SSS will offer regularly scheduled unmounted sessions to work on horse-management goals. Most of these sessions will offer time for participants to work on their specific goals at the barn with supervision. For example, if someone needs to practice tying safety release knots while someone else needs help putting a bridle together, an instructor will be handy to help guide each student’s need. We will also have topic specific sessions. A specific schedule of session opportunities will be sent out at the beginning of each month. Participants can choose one or all of the offered sessions. Sessions will be held on Tuesday or Friday afternoon from 4-6 or on a weekend day. Booster riding classes will be offered on a weekend day or a vacation day (tbd) which will be group/camp like sessions for riders to practice with supervision from either Kara or Sarah. Level assessments will be offered once a month (or every other month depending on the need) for riding and horse management level checks ups and awards. Once a level has been achieved, each participant will receive a medal of achievement.
**Members must sign up for unmounted or mounted sessions at least a week ahead of time - there will be a sign up sheet posted in the main lesson barn or you may email kara@seastarstable.com - IF NO ONE SIGNS UP IN ADVANCE, SESSIONS WILL NOT BE HELD. Sessions may be shortened to an hour if only 2 members attending.
