GMHA: June 4-5, 2005

What a great weekend for all! Nice warm sunny days + happy healthy horses + riders.

Pippin (Sea Me Smile) completed his first recognized event at Beginner Novice. He was a super star being away from home for the first time. He scored a 36 in dressage, which put him tied for 5th out of a field of over 20.
He put in a tremendous effort in stadium and despite a few time penalties (wide, careful turns!), we put in a clean round. Sunday brought cross-country, which was a blast! He loved it and really settled into a rhythm and got more and more confident as the course went on.
Unfortunately we had a little hesitation at the flagged water crossing (if it had only been the next water crossing!) which cost us 20 penalties and some time but he finished in a respectable 12th place!

Cassi Cameron and Derby Moon had 3 fantastic rides in Junior Beginner Novice. She broke her curse of the 40’s in dressage with a very good ride (and a 38) putting her in 4th place which she maintained with a clear round in stadium. She finished the weekend with a perfect x-c ride and ended up in second place!!! Congratulations Cassi!!

Alex Hamill and “Jesters Cap” had a great start to their season finishing the weekend with a fifth place in Junior Beginner Novice. Alex and William have really improved their forward thinking and actually came in too fast on x-c! Congratulations Alex! Next stop: Groton House!

Special thanks for Pete for driving and for being such a great groom!

May 28-29: Clinic with Eric Smiley

Kara and Pippin and Alex and William attended a fantastic 2-day clinic with Eric Smiley who is a well-known event rider from Ireland. The first day consisted of dressage and stadium at Black Oak in Hamilton and the second day was cross-country at Ledyard. Pippin got to experience all sorts of different questions on cross-country and William and Alex had the opportunity to be a role model for the younger, less experienced horses and to stretch their wings over larger, more complex fences.
